On October 14th, special lectures by two well-known TV personalities, Eva Lee from Russia and Sujan Shakya from Nepal, who have appeared on the once-loved Non-summit Meeting and The Korean Foreigners, were given to Seowon High School and Osong High School students respectively. This program was co-hosted by Weekly Monday to provide students with an opportunity to realize the necessity of international cultural awareness and help them decide on their career paths. Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the lectures were given face-to-face to a very limited number of students onsite and viewed by many others online.
Eva Lee introduced basic facts about Russia; land, time, location, population, political structure, resources, etc. Eva went on to explore mutual prejudices or misunderstanding about Koreans and Russians.
She also talked about her own personal experience. Eva Lee advised the students to expand their world view and to explore other cultures and global issues emphasizing the importance of developing cross-cultural understanding and skills.
On the same day, Sujan Shakya met with Osong High School students to give his special lecture with the title "What should I do?" Through his lecture, he talked about his life story in Nepal and Korea. During the lecture, Sujan introduced many cultural things about Nepali people, their food and culture. He also told the students about his career path and how he overcame conflicts and wanderings in adolescence through his life experiences, and the efforts he has made to achieve his dreams.
Students said that their special lectures were a "really special" chance to think about what they should do as a global citizen and what they should consider in choosing their career path.
