BTS Winning four crowns at the BMA
BTS entered the Billboard Music Awards for the first time in 2017, receiving an award in the Top Social Artist category based on its social media influence. This year was the first time that BTS has received awards in other categories.
BTS shared their impressions of the award in Seoul. Leader RM said in English, "It is a great honor to be the winner of this meaningful title. We are going through difficult times so we want to share fresh energy with everyone through our song, and I think we have achieved this." He also described “Dynamite” as being “made of positive vibes, energy, hope, love, and purity.”
BTS has secured three trophies in three categories: ‘Top Duo/Group,' 'Top Song Sales Artist,' and Top Social Artist.' In the 'Top Duo/Group' category, BTS competed with legendary rock band AC/DC, indie pop trio AJR, country duo Dan and Shay, and pop band Maroon 5. In the 'Top Song Sales Artist' category, the artist competed with prominent artists such as Justin Bieber, Morgan Wallen, and Weekend. In the 'Top Social Artist' category, which reflects online influence, the group has competed with Black Pink, Philippine boy group SB19, and pop star Ariana Grande.
BTS thanked and shared its joy with ARMY fans around the world. J-Hope said, "I have been a top social artist for five years in a row since 2017, and I am grateful to ARMY and BBMA for giving me this incredible title."
In the midst of this, the music video for BTS' new song 'Butter' was released on May 21st, surpassed 100 million views in 21 hours after the release, and advanced the record of their previous song 'Dynamite' by three hours.
