President Moon Jae-in attended the Group of Seven (G7) Summit in Cornwall, United Kingdom, from June 11 to 13. The Group of Seven (G7) is so-called developed countries including Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Russia joined in 1998 and had once formed G8; however, Russia was excluded from the list in 2014 due to its forced annexation of Crimea.
This year, the United Kingdom, the hosting country, invited Korea as a guest along with the leaders of Australia, India, and South Africa.

President Moon Jae-in participated in the 'Open Society and Economy' session, the second session of the G7 Expansion Summit. At the meeting, the leaders decided to protect and promote the values of an open society, such as human rights, democracy, and the rule of law, and adopted the 'Open Society Statement' containing the message of cooperation to spread these values. These messages appear to be aiming at China, which has recently shown anti-human rights.

At the summit, President Moon Jae-in discussed cooperation in vaccine production with AstraZeneca Chairman Soriot and discussed with German Chancellor Merkel on Germany's advanced vaccine development. In addition, the president also pledged future cooperation in the fields of technology, culture, and education with Prime Minister Morrison of Australia, Executive Chairman of the European Union, and President Macron of France.

President Moon Jae-in's participation in the session confirmed Korea's international status as a mature democracy that shares the values of an open society and as a leader in science and technology.

"In the past, the fate of Korea was determined by the decisions of the great powers. But now, Korea has become the world's 10th largest economy, and now we are a country where we can decide our destiny and exchange support and cooperation with other countries." President Moon Jae-in spoke after the summit as he referred World Peace Conference in The Hague in 1907 and Potsdam Conference in 1945.

The Blue House evaluated President Moon Jae-in's attendance at the G7 Summit by saying, "It means that Korea has gone beyond the G20, a consultative body of major economies, and has risen to the ranks of advanced countries that stand shoulder to shoulder with the global leaders of the G7."

Meanwhile, from June 13 to 15, President Moon visited Austria, which will mark the 130th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year, for the first time as a Korean president, and met with President Alexander Van der Bellen.
